New York From the Water
The previous evening, we had explored New York by train.
The next day, before taking to the roads, we decided to take to the water. 😄
New York from a boat.
That sounded like a good idea.
So we climbed aboard a Circle Line boat on the Hudson.
And suddenly, New York opened up.
The buildings looked taller.
The skyline looked bigger.
And for once, we could simply sit back and let New York come to us. 😄
As the boat moved along, New York kept changing its view.
Buildings, bridges and the waterfront appeared from angles we hadn’t seen before.
From the streets, you look up at New York.
From the water, you look across it.
And then…
there she was.
The Statue of Liberty.
We had seen her in photographs, films and television countless times.
But photographs have a funny way of making even extraordinary things feel familiar.
This time, she wasn’t on a screen.
She was right there.
And, naturally, we had to get a family photograph to prove we hadn’t simply imagined the whole thing. 😄
Maybe that’s the fun of New York.
Every time you turn around, there’s something else to discover.
And we had only just begun. 😊
