America, One Moment at a Time — #28

The Car Stayed Behind

We had driven all the way from Boston to New Jersey.

Our car had brought us safely to the Hyatt House at One Exchange Place.

And then we left it there. 😄

Our hotel was right beside the PATH station, and we were heading into New York.

Our kids suggested we take the train.

Simple enough.

Except that New York trains have a way of reminding you how little you know. 😄

There were trains.
Platforms.
Signs.
Connections.

And lots of people walking purposefully in every direction. Clearly knowing exactly where they were going.

And then there was me.

Trying to look as though I knew too. 😄

We took the train, changed connections and waited a little for the right one.

Our kids seemed to know exactly what they were doing.

I was happy to follow.

After all, when you’re visiting New York for the first time, there is no shame in letting your children be your transport department. 😄

Eventually, we arrived in Times Square.

We had a quick dinner at Joe Allen and then walked over to the Minskoff Theatre.

We were going to see The Lion King.

And there I was… in New York, having left our car behind in New Jersey.

The car had done its job.

For the rest of the evening, we didn’t need it. 😄

Perhaps that’s one of the nice things about travelling.

Sometimes you don’t need to know the way.

You just need to know who to follow. 😊

    1. What a lovely coincidence, Laura! You were in the city enjoying an entirely different kind of performance while we were there for The Lion King. 😊
The Fall for Dance Festival sounds wonderful. New York certainly seems to have something happening on every stage, big or small. Thank you for sharing this! And what a great way to add another little New York moment to the story. 🙏🏻💛
