A Little Bite of Paradise

There’s something special about picking an apple straight from a tree… and discovering that eating it right there is half the fun!

At Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow, Massachusetts, we found ourselves surrounded by greenery, rolling fields and the cheerful bustle of autumn.

Founded in 1926, this 186-acre family orchard has become one of Massachusetts’ top apple-picking destinations.

Apple picking is a New England autumn tradition.

Stow’s five orchards can draw thousands of visitors on busy fall days.

With three or four parking areas filled to capacity, the popularity was hard to miss!

Local youngsters were on hand to guide the cars, keeping the autumn rush remarkably orderly.

Among the trees, families hunted for perfect apples, children filled bags, and adults took their choices seriously.

My wife and I picked red and green apples, then munched on freshly picked fruit.

It was a first for both of us!

The instructions said to grip, turn upside down and twist.

Fortunately, there was no examination at the end.

A tractor-pulled wagon, fresh apple cider, and a country-western band added to the fun.

At Ferjulian’s Farm, atop Gospel Hill in Hudson, the autumn soundtrack changed rather dramatically.

The Apple Blaster’s air-powered cannons fired apples at a giant pumpkin perched on a car roof, making quite a noise… and quite a spectacle!

We admired the seasonal displays and bought a few pumpkins.

After all these years, it was a small first… and a delicious reminder that life still has a few surprises tucked away among the branches.
